HYGGE. The word is everywhere at the moment but what does it actually mean? Aaaaaaand more importantly how do you pronounce it!? It’s pronounced (hue-gah) although I think (hy-gee) sounds way more fun so I’m going to stick with that. Hygge is a Danish word that is essentially a feeling that involves making ordinary, every day moments more meaningful and beautiful. It’s about being present and acknowledging all those little things that make us feel happy and content.
The Danish population are known as the HAPPIEST in the world so they are clearly doing something right…
I wanted to explore this further as living such a hectic lifestyle, having early starts, working long hours etc. can really take it’s toll, especially at this time of year. Anything that I can essentially ‘practice’ to make me feel less stressed, grateful and to nourish my soul, I’m all over it.
HYGGE TO ME IS –
TEA. I LOVE herbal teas and have so many different options at home at the moment but one in particular that is my new favourite is the PUKKA LOVE TEA. It’s rose, chamomile + lavender infused and is perfect to have before bed.
BOOKS. There’s nothing better than getting lost in a good book and it’s something I must try to do more of next year. Commuting 3 hours a day gives me lots of free time (unless I am sleeping which I usually am) however next year I need to use my commuting time more wisely and read more. One book in particular that I am loving at the moment is THE SOUL SEARCHERS HANDBOOK – if you are someone who has an interest in ‘new age’ spirituality and want to read something a bit different definitely give this a read!
BEDTIME. The time when I switch off the TV, roll on some sleep remedy, put my eye mask on and forget all the stresses of the day and go to sleep. That’s hygge.
CANDLES. Lighting candles around my house makes me feel instantly relaxed and creates a really calming atmosphere in the home and at this time of year there are SO many lovely candles around. My go to candles this year are the Neom Organics Christmas Wish + The White Company – Winter Candles. The smell of Cinnamon, Cloves + Mandarin has hygge written all over it.
There’s also some cute books on Hygge which would make a lovely Christmas present for someone! Check out ‘The Secrets of Nordic Living’ on the Neom Organics blog.

PEACE, LOVE + HYGGE LIVING.
Love these suggestions also reminded me how much I like that Pukka tea will have to buy some 🙂

Great post! And I love how you’re looking on your daily time spent commuting as ‘free time’, framing it in such a positive light rather than seeing it as a massive hassle and a mission… which it obviously is sometimes! You spread good vibes ♡
