#SAVVY SLEEPOVER. I’d been having a pretty boring Sunday last week until I received a really exciting email from Hanna – @the_savvy_mummy inviting myself and Enzio to an overnight stay at Fair Oak Farm – @yourcountryestate. The event was created to bring mamas and their children together for a much needed rest and some fun in the countryside. I googled the address and was delighted to see the venue was literally fifteen minutes from my house!
I had been wanting to attend some events to meet new mamas and this seemed like the perfect opportunity. If you know me, you’ll know that I LOVE making new friends and thrive in these sort of situations. I’m always the person that my friends rely on to make small talk in situations where no one knows each other.
I was a teeeeeeny bit nervous although definitely more excited, I think what I was more nervous about was that perhaps I might not have as many followers as the other bloggers and I guess in a sense feel like a bit of a ‘nobody’ in the mama blogger sphere. I needn’t have worried, ALL the girls were beyond welcoming and really made us feel at ease instantly.
Anyway…moving onto our stay the most incredible country estate nestled in the lanes of the village of Mayfield in East Sussex.
FAIR OAK FARM.
I was surprised that I hadn’t heard of Fair Oak Farm with it being so close to home but it is one of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed in the UK. You basically have your own little village with various choices of accommodation including treehouses, converted barns, shepherd huts and gypsy esque caravans.
I stayed in a double room in the FARMHOUSE along with 4 other girls and their babies. It was a gorgeous room with THE most comfortable bed…we both slept so much better than at home which was a bonus!
The estate is also home to five PEACOCKS and super cute ALPACAS! I spent a good half an hour following a peacock trying to get the perfect insta shot, they really are the most beautiful birds and it was amazing to be up so close and personal with them.
Fair Oak Farm is the perfect getaway for adults and kids as there is also a hot tub (I soon found out that I had missed the wild night all the girls had the night before as some of them were feeling a littttttle fragile). There’s also a cinema room, zip wire, trampoline, childrens play area, fire pit and much more. If you want to go on walks there’s plenty of countryside surrounding the venue to explore too. As a local myself, I am a regular in one of the local pubs, The Middlehouse. A walk and a pub lunch? BLISS.
The majority of the day was spent getting to know the other girls, we had some photos taken by the lovely Natalie and we were also treated to afternoon tea…MELT IN THE MOUTH SCONES, HELLO. The kids had spent the day joining in an easter egg hunt and just running round getting covered in mud and having the best time, it was great that they could just run around being free and none of us had to worry which is usually unheard of if you are out with kids in a town or city.
After I’d got talking to everyone, I realised there were quite a few people who I followed on Instagram which was SO nice to put faces to names. Sarah Baily (@sarahbaily) was one of the guests and I had a bit of a fan girl moment when I told her that her GIRL GANG biker jackets are one of the items on my life time wish list. If you haven’t seen her collection, OMG, go check it out now. Also since having a baby, I have been following Jenny Scott from @mothersmeetings and have read her book through many a night feeds so that was also a highlight of the retreat to meet Jenny and gorgeous baby Skye!
The evening consisted of PIZZA making and drinking prosecco, courtesy of The Northern Dough Co. We also participated in a life coaching session which was really enlightening and a great way to get to know each other a little better!
What I loved about the event was that it was completely pressure free, the idea was for us mums to get some chill time but to also meet other mums so it was completely up to us whether we wanted to join in or not.
We had a truly fantastic time staying at Fair Oak Farm and I would highly recommend to anyone looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of London, it’s perfect for those milestone birthdays, hen dos, health + wellness retreats, corporate events etc. You name it!
Thank you to Ian for hosting us and a HUGE thank you to the lovely Hanna (@the_savvy_mummy) for organising such a fabulous event. I feel so lucky to have been invited and to meet such a wonderful group of women.
Can’t wait for the next event!
